Q1. What are nouns?
Ans. Nouns are naming words. E.g. cat, Arun, Orai
Q2. What are the types of nouns?
Ans. There are two types of nouns.
Proper nouns: - Proper nouns are the special names used for persons, places or organizations. They start with a capital letter. E.g. India, Aman
Commons nouns: - Common nouns are the names of common things. E.g. boy, apple

SEGMENT 2: NOUN – NUMBER & GENDER
Q1. What are singular nouns?
Ans. The words which indicate the names of one person, place or thing are known as singular nouns. E.g. cat, man, chair
Q2. What are plural nouns?
Ans. The words which indicate the names of more than one person, place or thing are known as plural nouns. E.g. cats, men, chairs
Q3. How are plural nouns formed?
Ans. Most plural nouns are formed by adding ‘s’. E.g. cat-cats, chair-chairs, pencil-pencils. Some plural nouns are formed by adding ‘es’. E.g. mango-mangoes, class-classes, box-boxes. Some others are formed in irregular ways. E.g. man-men, leaf-leaves, child-children
Q4. What are the genders of nouns?
Ans. Nouns are of four genders. 1) Masculine, 2) Feminine, 3) Neuter, and 4) Common.
Masculine nouns refer to words for a male member.
Feminine nouns refer to words for a female member.
Neuter nouns refer to words for things that have no gender.
Common nouns refer to words that do not specify gender.

We all know that India became a free country on 15th August 1947. I would like to utilize this opportunity to salute our great freedom fighters. Great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhash Chandra Bose did great service to India. Independence Day is a great occasion to unite the people of India. SEGMENT 4: NOUN CASE
1. What are the noun cases?
There are five kinds of noun cases: nominative, objective, possessive, vocative and dative.
2. What is nominative case of a noun?
When a noun is used as a subject of the verb in a sentence, it is a said to be in the nominative case or a subjective case.

3. What is objective case of a noun?
When a noun is used as a object of the verb or preposition in a sentence, it is a said to be in the objective case.

4. What is possessive case of a noun?
When a noun or pronoun is used to show possession or ownership of something, it is a said to be in the possessive case.

5. What is vocative case of a noun?
When a noun is addressed to by his/her name or rank, it is a said to be in the vocative case.

6. What is dative case of a noun?
When a noun or pronoun is used as an indirect object of verb, it is said to be in the dative case.

1. What are the kinds of pronouns?
There are five kinds of pronouns: personal pronouns, relative pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, interrogative pronouns and reflexive pronouns.
2. What are personal pronouns?
The pronouns which are used for persons are called the personal pronouns. They are I, we, you, he, she, it and they
3. What are relative pronouns?
The pronouns which are used to show relation to a noun in a sentence are called the relative pronouns.

Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa was born in Yugoslavia on 26th August 1910. She became a nun at the age of 18. She came to India as a Loretto sister to teach in Loretto convent in Kolkata.
The extreme poverty that she saw around her seen made her change her directions. She decided she would serve the poor, the sick and the helpless from then onwards. Moved by her example, many came forward to join her. In 1950 she started the famous order of the 'Missionaries of Charity'.
Soon many homes for the homeless, schools and hospitals were opened all over the country and abroad. Today the Missionaries of Charity have more than 150 centres in India alone and they have their branches in most countries of the world.

SEGMENT 8: VERBS – TYPES Q1. What is a transitive verb? Ans1. A transitive verb is a verb that takes a direct object. The action of a transitive verb is done to someone or something. E.g. Arun kicked a ball. Q2. What is an intransitive verb? Ans2. An intransitive verb is a verb that does not take a direct object. The action of an intransitive verb does not pass on to the object. E.g. Arun laughs. Q3. What is a gerund? Ans3. A gerund is a non-finite verb. It is formed by adding ‘ing’ to the verb. In most sentences, gerunds act as nouns. E.g. Swimming is his favorite hobby. Q4. What is an infinitive? Ans4. An infinitive is a non-finite verb. It is formed by adding ‘to’ to the verb. An infinitive verb is so-called because it is not bound by time. E.g. Aman wants to eat food. Q5. What is a participle? Ans5. A participle is a non-finite verb. It is formed by adding ‘ing’ to the verb. In most sentences, participles act as adjectives or adverbs. E.g. It can breathe only in the water with the help of its gills. It can swim very fast underwater. A normal fish has a lifespan of 20 years. A catfish has the longest lifespan of 60 years. More than 20,000 species of fish are found all over the world. They stay in groups, and their group is known as a shoal. Sometimes groups of fish swim in the same direction, called schooling. They make different sounds and noises for communication. Some fish are carnivorous as they eat insects and other small fishes and some are herbivorous and eat weeds and sea plants.
